A designers’ inspiration

Tinker Hatifield

Tinker Hatified, born April 30, 1952, is an American shoe designer of numerous Nike and Jordan models including the Air Jordan 3-15. He also created the twentieth-anniversary Air Jordan XX, The Jordan XXlll, The 2010 Jordan (XXV) The 2015 Jordan XX9. Hatfield has made himself a legend with many shoe designs including the first Nike cross trainer and Nike Max 1 that sneaker lovers crave and adore.

I admire the brainchild of tinker and the amount of dedication he has for creating iconic designs. Though much of his work was created when I was in my youth, his poetry of designs continues to live on to this day. My first design back in 2015 was to create a design similar to the Nike Air Force 1 but it had to be greater than the original. Unfortunately, I had a hard time trying to figure out the proportions and had to practice more with my eyes than with my hands to get a better idea of how a shoe is formed. Tinker gave me the inspiration to keep making mistakes and to keep drawing to better my pattern and performance.

Sometimes I get stuck with ideas, but the moment I open up a gallery that included the work of Hatfield or other designers within Nike; I transition my thoughts and pour the what-ifs onto paper until I can find the right idea to paint the perfect picture. Tinker is one of a kind and won’t find anyone like him in the game of footwear and innovation.
